Exam cancellation in India has recently become a huge matter of concern.
We are currently in a phase where everyone is befuddled. Let it be a businessman or professionals or students. Education; the most crucial and important aspect of our country is also under distress. We can see people discussing the current situation, economic conditions, or a variety of things. But here I am to talk about something really unusual and least talked about subject. Yes it is the hardships and problems faced by students in this phase
Why exam cancellation seems to be the only option?
Past four months have been a real struggle for all the students around the globe. Sitting at home, taking classes over the internet, could sound interesting to some of you but frankly speaking it is not. Some mornings I would wake up and hear the news of exam cancellation over some part of the country due to the pandemic. And some other days I would hear exams are to be rescheduled.
Cancellation of exams was indeed great news for some of the students but it was kind of a big shock to a large chunk of students. I would say it is a mixed feeling amongst the students. Some of the students were not happy as they feel their percentage will be affected because they will be marked as per their previous exams and would be given average marks. They feel they could have done better this time, some of them feel it was the need of the hour and it is ok to cancel and they were expecting for the same.
Let’s take an instance of CA exams which were to be held in July end are now postponed till November. Students were preparing for the same since last 6 months everything was prepared they were ready to give exams, ICAI the mother body Charted accountants gave the opportunity to students to opt-out the exams, but only 4% of the students chose to opt this shows how excited they were to give their exams, after all, waiting for an exam for almost 6 months was a tough ask. But then something went wrong and ICAI decided to postpone it till November, some students were happy but those who were prepared and were planning to give their other exam in November were distorted. Revising and learning syllabus again is a big deal. But it was somewhere important to postpone that is why ICAI gave up.
Exam cancellation is a great decision as health is important. For today everything carries less importance than health, as COVID 19 has been spreading and we have to restrict ourselves for the sake of us, our family and our society.
Recently UGC has decided to take final year University-based exams by taking preventive measures and following the norms of social distancing it says. Authorities should check the attached recent data from Karnataka. As per press release from Karnataka Government 32 SSLC students tested, positive for the Coronavirus. Find out more
What is on the line due to exam cancellation?
Moreover, in a condition like this, it will be tough for students to give examinations as the fear of getting positive for the virus would restrict them to concentrate. They will be more worried about their family. Therefore for the government should take some more time to analyze the situation or should give general promotion to even final year students.
E-learning seems like the perfect substitute to sustain and continue the education of the country. But like everything it also has some flaws. It is not possible for everyone to ingress online education, as some students do have connectivity issues and some of them do not have proper device to access it.
In this current, scenario instead of pressurizing the students regarding studies, we should understand their condition too. Students are the future of the nation, and then is it justified to put their health on stake?
