So, the El-classico is finally over and Real Madrid thrashed FC Barcelona with 3-1 score, Valverde, Ramos and Modric shining at the occasion. A lot of people who had a lot of things to say about Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are now more clear about their performance. If you see Real Madrid, they performed exceptionally well and yesterday it felt like we are watching the prime Real Madrid of 2016 to 2018 again. They dominated the game and were consistent meanwhile, FC Barcelona struggled throughout the match.
Messi’s performance was not up to the expectations and his attitude towards the match could be easily seen that he didn’t like to be a part of FC Barcelona anymore especially when he saw Luka Modric scoring the final goal. He even fought with the referee and was rewarded with a yellow card in return and was clearly seen looking frustrated with his teammates.
If we talk about FC Barcelona’s defence then nobody instead of Dest was doing well and Pique along with his other buddies was obviously struggling. Lucas Vasquez and Rodrygo were easily penetrating Barca’s defence and the way Modric owned their goalkeeper Neto during the last goal all the defenders could do at that time was to spectate the masterclass goal by Luka Modric.
When it comes to Real Madrid’s defence, Rafael Varane still looks out of form and made many mistakes throughout the game but was well covered by Ramos, Mendy and their newest and unexpected addition to defence Lucas Vasquez. Ramos as usual was a top defender yesterday and Mendy is supporting him pretty well and the real shock was to see Lucas Vasquez doing brilliant as a right back who used to be a right wing for Real Madrid. He replaced Nacho Fernandez quite early in the game and right from that moment he showed that he has got what it needs to be a top performer and not just defensively but also he was able to create some great chances which went ultimately missed by the forwards.
Real Madrid again showed that they don’t need Luka Jovic but ultimately Benzema didn’t do anything special as well so when it comes to centre forward then Madrid still has a lot of concern but their wingers Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo did well but Asensio again failed to do what’s expected from him as Number 11 for Real Madrid. Talking about Barca, Ansu Fati gave them a great start and he has made it clear to everyone that he has a bright future with Barcelona and is extremely talented but alongside him Lionel Messi didn’t perform to the best of his abilities. Barca’s midfielders were also not doing good meanwhile for Real Madrid all of their midfielders were doing the magic for them. Right from the beginning Valverde was on top of his game and Toni Kroos is as usual Madrid’s most consistent performer.
So, before the match, Real Madrid were the underdogs but the way they played the whole match and the way they won it showed that they’ve made a great comeback and if they kept on doing this then they have a great chance of remaining at top of La Liga. This kind of performance will definitely lead Madrid to a good position in UCL as well although winning the UCL still looks quite far this season. For FC Barcelona, they had an upper hand before the game because the way they won their last UCL game they had momentum but what happened at the classico was completely opposite and now Koeman has got things to think about.
